In the field of hospitality, some workers serve the client face to face, but others do not. Many hospitality sector jobs entail work behind the scenes in the backstage arena - such as chefs, planners and other positions that involve planning and preparations. Possible employers in this field include any institution with service and catering facilities such as hotels, hospitals, schools, restaurants and contract caterers.

Bar Service

  Do you have an outgoing personality?  Are you dedicated, committed and flexible?  Bar staff are employed in restaurants and bars all over the world. Their primary role is to service customers with drinks, and secondarily, food (occasionally other things such as cigarettes and cigars).  In some situations, bar staff may only dispense drinks and snacks such as nuts and potato crisps. In other situations (eg. at a pub), bar staff may be required to take orders for "counter meals", and dispense the meals after they have been prepared by the cook. This course provides foundation knowledge for those attending a bar or working as a drinks waiter or waitress. Ecotourism is an industry that has developed hugely in recent years. It reflects both of the aims of modern conservation: management of resources and protection of the environment. Modern ecotourism strives to be sustainable, so that the activities that are taking place can continue to do so. This course will introduce you to aspects of ecotourism such as guiding environmental awareness, planning tours,displays and interpretive aids, plant and animal interpretation.

Hotel Management

  Broad based, basic training to work in hospitality, accommodation, hotels, motels or resorts. A popular and substantial starting point for anyone in the hotel industry, this course is 100 hours duration.

Leisure Facility Management Intermediate (II)

  Part 1: This course relates to the management and maintenance of both indoor and outdoor facilities and equipment, including swimming pools, locker rooms, buildings, gymnasiums, and sports turf. Content includes monitoring the condition of equipment, routine maintenance programming and simple repair procedures. Part 2: This course develops a manager's ability to participate effectively as part of a design team for major works, or to plan and direct contrators in the development of minor facilities.  It covers: Ergononmic considerations Managing construction work Design of sportsgrounds Design of indoor facilities Design of gymnasium equipment

Leisure Facility Management Introduction (I)

  A comprehensive introductory course focusing on the management and development or redevelopment of recreation facilities.  Subjects cover the nature of recreation and fitness facilities, legal requirements during contruction, the management of minor construction projects and evaluating fitness and recreation equipment.  This course develops skills to manage day to day operations of facilities such as gyms, health clubs, swimming pools, or recreation facilities.  The course deals with managing bookings, purchasing, safety, contingencies and insurance.

Leisure Management - Administrative and Financial Management (III)

  Develop management strategies for clerical and financial operations in a recreation or fitness environment. Keeping accurate and efficient financial records is paramount for successful business. During this course you will learn to develop strategies for manageing clerical and financial aspects for a recreation facility or service.  The course covers financial records, budgets, legal reporting, liaising, managing documents, forming a resource library, and using information technology.

Leisure Management - Human Resource Management (II)

  Develops management strategies for human resources in a recreation or fitness service, or facility. People are a key resource for any business.  This course develops an understanding of important human resource issues such as work schedules, developing a team approach, team performance, staff recruitment, evaluating staff performance, and communication between staff.  Builds on Leisure Management I, but can stand alone.

Leisure Management - Management Strategies (IV)

  This module will enable the learner to develop management policy, procedural, and planning aspects of a recreation oriented service or facility.  This course covers policy development and management, meeting operational procedures, planning process management, meeting and conference management as well as supervising reports.

Leisure Management Introduction (I)

  Develop Marketing Skills for the Leisure Industry During this course you will learn to develop strategies to market recreation facilities or services.  The course shows you how to do things such as: Develop marketing and promotions to maintain or increase business; Manage the delivery of a service to ensure customer satisfaction; Monitor a membership database to ensure return business and Manage complaints. Learn about: Public relations, Promotions and Advertising Getting the word to potential customer, clients and the general public Why and how people go about making decisions such joining a gym, enrolling in a recreation program, taking up a new hobby or supporting a sporting club.
